In early reviews, customers and equipment pros cite the many attractive features on the new Livestrong LS5.0U upright bike. It has a contoured, oversized padded seat, vertical and horizontal seat adjustments, large tubing for a sturdy frame, and an 8.8-lb flywheel.

The silent magnetic brake system with 20 levels of resistance has no wearing parts so you will have years of maintenance-free performance. Other features of the Livestrong LS5.0U include QuickZip™ pedals for a secure foothold, a reading rack, hand grip HR sensors, a built-in audio-in jack, headphone jack, and Sonic Surround™ speaker system to plug in an iPod or other MP3 device.

The 11 pre-set programs are set as road race tour “stages” that offer challenging rides including manual, weight loss, Muscle Toner, The Tour, Lance’s Climb, Lance’s Descent, max cardio, and custom. These stages feature up to 10 difficulty levels plus 20 levels of resistance, which can be easily adjusted using the level Quick Keys.

You also get free access to Livetrack Interactive™. With this feature you can record your workout stats on a USB device that comes with the bike, and then transfer the data to your computer to upload to livestrong.com. The Myplate feature at the website lets you track your progress, workout history, and download new programs.

Our Take

The Livestrong LS5.0U upright bike is a good choice at the right price. It is normally $799, but you should wait until it goes on sale for $549 to get the best value.

At the lower price, this machine matches up very well against the Diamondback 510Ub, and it is far more sturdy than a Kettler Polo M model, which only weighs about 60 pounds. Otherwise, for $800, go with an upright such as the Sole B94 that offers a larger 25-lb flywheel, a 3-year parts & electronics warranty, and an adjustable gel seat.
