The Buzz

UPDATE:  Johnson Health & Fitness is no longer making exercise bikes or any other equipment under the LiveStrong name.  For a comparable bike check out the latest Horizon exercise bikes at the official company store.

The Livestrong R1x recumbent bike has an electronic Johnson Integrated Drive (JID) hybrid generator, a maintenance-free drive system that requires no power and carries a 5-year warranty.

Built on a heavy-duty step-through frame design, the bike is available for home or light commercial use with a warranty that is valid for up to 6 hours of use per day.

The pre-programmed workouts include Manual, Intervals (hills, random), Goals (time, distance, and calories) Multi FX+ (constant watts, random), Heart Rate + (target heart rate, weight loss) Fit Test, warm up, and cool down.

Along with on-the-fly program changes, the workouts have 20 levels of resistance to increase or decrease the tension at any time during the workout.

Rider comfort is a key feature on the Livestrong R1x as the ergo form seat with back pad adjusts to 25 seat positions.

According to user reviews, this bike seat is superb, and the pedaling operation and flywheel is remarkably smooth and quiet. Other remarks are that this is an easy exercise bike to assemble at home.

Our Take

The Livestrong R1x recumbent bike is a Cadillac among bikes and carries a big retail tag of just over $3,000 with free shipping.

It is certainly worth the price if you want the best quality for your home gym but don’t need or want to buy an even more expensive recumbent in the Matrix line – the R3x, R5x, or the R7x.

Additionally, a portion of the sale of each bike is donated by Matrix/Livestrong to the Lance Armstrong Foundation in the fight against cancer.
