The Schwinn IC4 is the newest release in the company's Indoor Cycling Series, improving upon the popular IC3 and the previous IC2 with more features and capabilities.
The IC4 is competitively priced at just under $1000 during our latest review, which is just a few hundred more than the other models. Given everything that it has it's well worth the additional expenditure, especially if you want a bit more out of your home exercise bike.
Let's take a look at this model...
The IC4 has a very sleek and modern design, all black/dark grey with red accents on the seat, pedals and flywheel. It has an upgraded console, tablet holder and dual water bottle holders.
Here are some of the most appealing features...
The Schwinn IC4 Indoor Cycling Bike has been very well received so far, and seems to be eclipsing the popularity of the Schwinn IC3 despite being a bit more expensive than that model.
This is likely due to the wide range of features and capabilities that it offers, many of which are not found on the IC3.
Let's take a look at the pros and cons of the IC4...
The Pros
Perhaps the biggest draw of the new IC4 is its Bluetooth capability, which makes it much more appealing than the IC3, which does not have this functionality.
This allows you to tap into the company's unique JRNY app (free for one year as of this review), as well as the Peloton and Zwift apps. Access on-demand workouts, real time coaching, virtual destinations and much more all via your tablet.
It also comes with a pair of 3-lb dumbbells, which is great for a nice upper arm workout while you pedal.
Although the IC3 also has wireless heart rate monitoring, the IC4 comes with a free armband for accurate Bluetooth measurements.
Other nice features include adjustable racing seat and handle bars, 2 cup holders, media shelf, transport wheels and a 330 lb. max weight capacity.
So a lot of good upgrades...but anything bad here?
The Cons
We couldn't find much to complain about when it comes to the Schwinn IC4.
The warranty, which tends to be an issue on Schwinn exercise bikes and other cardio equipment that they offer, isn't so bad here. You get 10 years on the frame
The display is nothing special, but if you use your tablet it's not something that's going to bother you at all.
It would be nice to get a workout fan here, especially since it's the more advanced model...but again, not a deal breaker.
The only reason that you might opt for the IC3 over the IC4 is price and functionality.
If $999 is a bit pricey for you, then the IC3 at about $650 might be much more appealing.
Also, if you're someone who likes to just get on and ride, then the IC3 might be all that you need.
For everyone else, the Schwinn IC4 is going to be the better call. It's a sturdier bike, you get Bluetooth capability to tap into JRNY and all of your favorite workout apps, you get the free dumbbells, higher max weight capacity...there's just more to love and it will be a much more enjoyable bike to ride.
If you're looking for a great, affordable home exercise bike, the Schwinn IC4 is definitely one worth considering.
As we mentioned above, you get a lot of great features and capabilities, including JRNY, which offers tons of on-demand workout programs, leader boards, community, exotic destinations and a lot of extras to keep your workouts exciting.
If you want to save a little money consider the lower end IC3 as well, which has many of the same features without Bluetooth capability.
