The Star Trac E-UBe upright bike console shows readouts for time, RPM, heart rate, calories, calories/hour, watts, distance, and speed, as well as a course profile and ¼-mile motivational track. The 15 workouts include heart rate control, Auto Pilot, warm up, watts, Fitness Test (Modified Astrand-Rhyming Test), and three custom workouts.

The Buzz

Most Star Trac products generally get solid reviews from professionals and home users, and the reviews on the Star Trac E-Ube are favorable although they question the high price for the home model. Not too many people are willing to spend almost $4,800 on an upright bike.

The display on the Star Trac E-UBe upright bike features four workout views, including Progress View, Track View, Heart Rate View, and Simple View. The touch screen entertainment system has a 15" high definition touch screen LCD, a digital tuner, integrated iPod® connector, USB charging station for most personal media devices, and a coaxial cable connector.

You can watch content from your own video iPod, and adjust channel and volume controls on the interactive screen. Built on a custom designed aluminum frame, the Star Trac E-Ube has a one-piece crank with sealed bearings, and dual-sided pedals with straps with inline skate-style clips.

Other standard features include wireless and contact grip heart rate monitoring, personal cooling fans, and easy ratchet seat adjust.

Our Take on the E-UBe Bike

With the Star Trac E-UBe, it is all about the entertainment system, because for $4,895 you aren’t getting a great upright bike just a great display terminal.

This bike has the same frame as the S-UBx model at $2,195 without the entertainment system. Star Trac is the only manufacturer that makes a residential/light commercial model this expensive, and it is just a question of the sense of paying so much for a bigger interactive screen.

For a comparison price, check out the Life Fitness LifeCycle Platinum Club Series with the Achieve Console which also has a 15" LCD screen. That one sells for up to $1400 less than the Star Trac E-UBe upright bike and offers many of the same features.
